Samvad – Beautiful Conversations

SAMVAD is a non-governmental, not-for-profit organization committed to improve mental health across the globe by empowering existing resources to provide psychological support. The primary focus areas include counselling, research and awareness on mental health problems. We aim to build a public health model to increase the coverage of basic interventions for mental health. The major barriers to accessing mental healthcare include stigma, high cost of treatment, lack of awareness, not much existing research regarding therapies. We want to bridge this gap and create a community for mental health about mental health and by people passionate about mental health.

How it all started

The beginning of our Story

Over 90 million Indians, or 7.5 percent of the country’s population of 1.3 billion, suffer from some form of mental disorder, according to the World Health Organization (WHO). However, the prevalence rate could be much higher, as suggested by the findings of a countrywide 2015-2016 study by India’s National Institute of Mental Health & Neurosciences (NIMHANS) – an autonomous institution under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. It revealed that nearly 150 million Indians needed active intervention while fewer than 30 million were getting it. Samvad was started to address this deficit in mental health services. It was made public on 27th of June 2020. Registered as a Section 8 non profit company on 12th November 2020!
